Fashion as Art and Philosophy
Marta Meyerhans, an international fashion curator and educator who has taught at numerous
institutions and curated for leading museums, developed and led a masterclass dedicated to the
work and legacy of Martin Margiela. The program explored Margiela’s revolutionary impact on the
dialogue between fashion and art, highlighting his deconstructionist techniques, repurposed
materials, and conceptual storytelling that redefined beauty and luxury.

Through her teaching, Marta positioned Margiela as a cultural disruptor and philosopher of
fashion, inviting participants to see garments as vessels for thought, memory, and resistance. His
influence, as she emphasizes, lives on not only in museum archives and collectors’ wardrobes but
in the very fabric of how we think about fashion, encouraging students and curators alike to
cultivate their own enduring relationship with the art form.
